Mobile case
New Delhi, Nov. 5: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the lifting of the recent home ministry ban on pre-paid mobile phone connections in Jammu and Kashmir.
This is arbitrary, Bhim Singh, the head of the Jammu and Kashmir Panthers Party, which has filed the PIL, said.
IIT dharna
New Delhi (PTI): Over 12,000 non-teaching staff at all the seven IITs on Thursday went on a dharna to protest anomalies in their pay structure, but did not boycott work. The All IIT Employees Union said their demands were not met after last months IIT Council meeting.
Bajrang death
Bhopal (PTI): A Bajrang Dal activist was stabbed to death by two persons in a temple on Wednesday. Deen Dayal Sharma, 35 and his aides Dinesh and Manish Agrawal were attacked with swords. Dinesh and Manish are in hospital where their condition is said to be critical. The assailants are at large.
Guns for dues
Bhopal (PTI): The Madhya Pradesh government is planning to cancel the arms licences of those who do not clear their outstanding electricity bills in four dacoit-infested districts of the Gwalior-Chambal region. The recovery of power bills in this region, where possessing firearms is a status symbol, is among the lowest in the country, officials said.
Malay visa
Kuala Lumpur (PTI): Malaysia on Thursday said it would continue its visa-on-arrival scheme to boost tourism, but maintained that countries like India, Pakistan and Afghanistan would not be able to benefit as many of their nationals flout the facility.
Tank blaze
Jaipur (PTI): The blaze at the Indian Oil Corporation depot in Jaipur was still raging in one of the tanks, a week after the fire broke out. Officials said the fire was likely to die down by Friday. The North Western Railway, however, has resumed services in the Jaipur-Kota section.
