India top tally in martial skill

Khomlainai meet

Kokrajhar, Nov. 4: Hosts India topped the medals tally in the 1st International Khomlainai Championship that concluded today at Kanthalguri SAI SAG Centre here.

India topped the tally with 11 gold, 10 silver and 19 bronze.

South Africa bagged a gold, three silver while Bhutan captured two medals including a silver and a bronze.

In the 2nd National Khomlainai Championship being held simultaneously, hosts Bodoland topped the tally with 20 medal, including seven gold, six silver and seven bronze. Manipur came second with four gold, one silver and a bronze.

Assam received a gold, three silver and two bronze.

Haryana bagged two gold, one silver and three bronze.

Maharashtra got one gold, one silver and one bronze.

Chandigarh bagged two silver.

Khomlainai is a Bodo traditional fighting game on the lines of other forms of martial arts which has gained popularity as the Bodo wrestlers went around the globe trying to popularise it.

The International Khomlainai Federation, affiliated to the Martial Arts Authority of India organised the game for the first time at the international level along with the 2nd national competition of the new martial game.

Over 400 players from South Africa, Bhutan, Myanmar and Nepal, including various states of India like Assam, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Manipur participated in the championship.

The championship was hosted by the Bodoland Indigenous Games Association under the aegis of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
