Further gain for Somdev

Calcutta: What Dinara Safina’s withdrawal from the WTA Championships had rendered as fait accompli became official Monday with Serena Williams’ return to the top of the women’s singles rankings.

Somdev Dev Varman continues to impress the ATP computer which has rewarded him a further five places and the Davis Cupper is at No.116 on the latest men’s singles chart. Somdev had reached the quarter finals of the ATP Challenger event in Korea last week.

Yuki Bhambri was at No.344, unchanged from last week.

Sania Mirza managed to keep her 58th spot on the singles chart and moved up a place in the doubles list to be at No.37.

Mahesh Bhupathi at No.7 and Leander Paes, a rung below, too found their rankings unchanged on the ATP doubles list.
