THREE ROADIES
Dev, Jeet and Koel

Challenge and Chirodini... Tumi Je Aamar maker Raj Chakraborty has pulled off a casting coup of sorts. His untitled upcoming film will have Jeet, Dev and Koel Mullick together for the first time!

“It will be the most difficult film ever made in Tollywood. My film is inspired by The Motorcycle Diaries. Most of the film will be shot on the roads of Calcutta, Bolpur and Purulia. Just imagine how difficult shooting with three popular stars is going to be! I am scared,” laughs Raj, who has given a Maoist twist to the story.

Koel has been cast as Nandini, a doctor, while Jeet plays the rich Rahul who falls in love with her. When Nandini realises Rahul is not the right match for her, she leaves town to work in a medical camp in Maoist-affected Lalgarh.

“Rahul then sets out on a journey to find the love of his life. Since he is rich, he buys an expensive bike. On his way, he runs into Shibu (Dev) who offers him help to find his sweetheart. Shibu is actually a thief who is after the bike! But in the course of the journey, the two men bond and they unwittingly enter Lalgarh. They get kidnapped. The film takes a U-turn from there and it has a mind-boggling climax!” adds Raj, who claims the film will be “very different” from Chirodini, Challenge and Prem Amar.

“This one is a road film and it is more about friendship than love. It’s a challenge that I have taken up because I want to try as many genres as I can. I want to push my limits and test myself. People may think that love stories are my forte but I want to prove that I can also do other kinds of films,” he says.

Raj plans to shoot at least two songs in New Zealand. Produced by Shree Venkatesh Films, the project rolls on the floors in December. Jeet Gannguli will score the music; Somak Mukherjee will steer the camera.
