Bhubaneswar, Oct. 22: Police commisionerate today busted a gang of robbers, being led by an MBA student studying at a premier city institute.
Police nabbed seven youths between 20 and 21 years of age while they were planning to rob a shopping mall in the state capital. Leading the gang was one Vickey Jha, an MBA student from Bihar. Vickey he managed to give the police a slip. The youths were arrested while they were about to loot a shopping mall, confirmed deputy commissioner of police Himanshu Lal.
The accused have been booked under Sections 399 and 402 of the IPC and article 27 of the Arms Act. However, two more gang members and Vickey managed to escape.
The deputy commissioner of police said that the accused have confessed to their crime.
Six motorcycles, two laptops, two gold chains, a revolver and swords were seized from the possession of the gang which was especially active in the Infocity area.
The seven have been identified as Loknath Behera, Ram Behera, Akshay Barik, Sanjeev Maharana, Saroj Panda, Bharat Sahu and Amit Barik hailing from Nimapara, Kalarahanga and Pitchukoli areas of the city, respectively.
Few months ago, the commissionerate had busted a similar gang comprising engineering students who were involved in ATM loots. Those arrested included Satish Mohanty and Abhijit Rout, students of a premier institute in the state.
Police recovered Rs 17,2400 in cash, ATM cards, two mobile phones and bikes from them. Apparently, the two would use the cash robbed to speculate in the share market.
