In memory of Bruno Campria, consul general of Italy in Calcutta who passed away recently, Consulate General of Italy, Calcutta, Italian Embassy Cultural Centre, New Delhi, and Rabindranath Tagore Centre, ICCR present a cello and piano concert by Francesca Villa (cello) and Francesco Pennarola (piano). Francesca Villa trained in violoncello at the “G.Verdi” Conservatory of Turin and has dedicated herself to Chamber music, Piano Duo and String Quartet. She has given major concerts in Italy and abroad. Recipient of several prestigious awards, she has also participated in theatrical performances besides composing music for various theatre productions. Francesco Pennarola has studied Piano at the “G.Verdi” Conservatory of Turin. Recipient of many scholarships and awards, he has given several concerts in Italy and abroad both as a soloist and in Chamber formations. In the last few years he has dedicated himself to Chamber Music, Cello Piano Duo with Francesca Villa on the cello. He has worked extensively in the field of musicology, contributing to the soundtrack for a film and participating in a host of RAI radio programmes. Their duet presentation this evening will consist of Igor Stravinsky’s Introduzione, from “Suite Italienne” (on themes of G.B. Pergolesi), Luigi Boccherini’s Sonata No. 7 in C Major, Claude Debbussy’s Sonata in D Minor, G. Cascioli’s Adagio, Giuseppe Martucci’s Romanza op. 72 no. 1, Johannes Brahm’s Three Lieder and Robert Schumann’s Three Fantasiestucke op. 73.
