Two die in road mishap
Islampur, Oct. 18: Two businessmen from Siliguri were killed and three others were injured when the car they were travelling in rammed into a truck from the rear at Panjipara in North Dinajpur, 20km from here, this morning.
Police said the dead have been identified as Rohit Agarwal, 24, and the driver of the vehicle, Vikas Saha. The injured — Rahul Gupta, 25, Mahesh Agarwal, 25 and Kamlesh Agarwal, 25 — have been admitted to a nursing home in Siliguri. The car was travelling from Kishanganj in Bihar to Siliguri.
Cops axed
Islampur: North Dinajpur police have suspended five constables and issued a showcause notice to a sub-inspector on Sunday in connection with the escape of an alleged dacoit, Abdul Hayat, 35, from the Islampur court premises on Friday. Hayat was arrested on September 30.
Mamata visit
Siliguri: Railway minister Mamata Banerjee will attend a conference at Siliguri Indoor Stadium on October 29. The minister is expected to lay the foundation stone of the proposed railway line from Sevoke to Rongpo the next day.
Border death
Raiganj: A 32-year-old Bangladeshi died on Sunday after the BSF opened fire near Koaladangi, 28km from here. Md Boddhir and three others were trying to cross the Indo-Bangladesh border and enter India illegally.
