Governor largesse for villagers

Ranchi, Oct. 15: About 47,523 villagers of Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and Ranchi reaped benefits today when Governor K. Sankaranarayanan distributed assets, both individual and community, worth Rs 865.38 crore during the fifth and last Vikas Mela of the season at Morabadi grounds in Ranchi.

Sankaranarayanan also handed over 1,600 appointment letters to those recruited as teachers and anganwadi workers while 6,000 family heads were given health cards under the national health insurance schemes. Five thousand ration cards were also distributed on the occasion.

The individual assets include bank loans and subsidised agricultural equipment while several development projects were initiated under community assets.

“Money in the state exchequer belong to the people. It should be used for their development,” Sankaranarayanan said. He has sanctioned Rs 2488.37 crore for development projects over the last 10 days.

Union food processing minister Subodh Kant Sahay, advisers to governor G. Krishnan and T.P. Sinha attended the mela.

Later, speaking to reporters, Sankaranarayanan sent out a strong message to the bureaucracy as well as the public against “corruption”.

He warned that Raj Bhavan would not tolerate any corruption, whether in the bureaucracy or the Games or in public life. Regarding reports of corruption in National Games, he said: “Such allegations have perturbed me.”
