Ranchi, Oct. 12: For the 42-odd inmates of the female probation home in Namkum, it was a special day out.
And not just because they went to Aqua World in Ranchi, enjoyed joy rides, burst crackers and relish good food, they had special company too — Supreme Court judge Altamas Kabir and his wife Minna Kabir.
The duo spent the entire day at Aqua World with the inmates of the remand home, interacted with them and also clicked photographs. The outing was especially planned to help the inmates come out of their shells and mingle with the outside world. And both Justice Kabir and his wife added to their pleasure.
In fact, it was Minna Kabir who was instrumental in shifting the inmates from a dilapidated rented house in Hatia to Namkum in 2005. Justice Altamas Kabir was then the Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. Since then, the couple have been taking personal interest in the well-being of the women and girls at the home.
“We are their guardians and have developed a strong bonding with them. We wanted them to have some fun and hence, arranged today’s outing,” said Justice Kabir, who was seen enjoying d a toy train ride with three-year-old Khushi, daughter of a rape victim.
No doubt, the inmates were having a gala time. Anaroo Kumari, 14, of Chatra, who has been residing in the home for the past three years, beamed. “Both uncle and aunt love us very much. Wo log humein maa aur papa jaisa pyaar dete hain. (They love us just like our parents). We are having a great time,” she said.
Earlier in the day, the Kabirs visited the probation home at Namkum and reportedly expressed satisfaction with the way the girls are kept there.
