Jamshedpur, Oct. 12: There is no Dola Banerjee, Mangal Ho or V. Pranitha, but the 24-member (men and women) state outfit for the 34th National Games has enough fire to sway Jharkhand’s medal tally on their side.
After a daylong trial at JRD Tata Sports Complex today, Jharkhand Archery Academy (JAA) announced the team for recurve, compound and Indian (read traditional) sections. The trials were conducted in 70m (recurve and compound) and 50m for Indian round where more than 100 archers turned up.
The crack unit comprise eight archers — Atanu Das, Olympian Mangal Singh Champia, Rimil Biruly, Bidisha Chakraborty, Deepika Kumari, Vivek Kumar, Sudhakar Paswan and Birsa Bandia — who will make their debut (for Jharkhand) in the Games. The outfit will be engaged in training-cum-conditioning camp to be held here from October 15.
Dola will probably don the jersey for her home state, Bengal, as rules no longer permit her to represent Jharkhand. The rules of the Archery Association mandates that an archer can represent a state where he/she is born or have stayed in a particular state for at least six months prior to a big event.
Mangal, the Kharsawan lad who is being trained by an international security agency for the 2012 Olympics, failed to turn up for trials while Olympian V. Pranitha came up with a poor score during the trials.
