JD-U team to probe clash

Jamshedpur, Oct. 9: A four-member JD(U) team visited Ranchi today to probe into a clash between two party functionaries, both women.

Headed by the party’s state secretary, Shravan Kumar, the team inquired into the circumstances that led to the fight between Kamaljeet Kaur Gill and Anjali Singh, the Jharkhand women’s wing president and the district committee chief, respectively.

The fight happened at Baridih under Sidhgora police station area on the evening of October 5.

Kumar, also the in-charge of JD(U)’s East Singhbhum district committee, camped at Nirmal Guesthouse at Bistupur and recorded statements of both the women and of party men. A video recording of eyewitnesses and Gill and Anjali was deposed before the probe team.

Talking to The Telegraph later, JD(J) secretary said that the matter was settled amicably in the police station between the activists. Since party discipline was flouted by the tiff, the party felt a need to probe into the issue.

Kumar added that he would submit a report before the state JD(U) president Jaleswar Mahto, who constituted the committee.

On October 4, Singh had inaugurated a office of the JD(U) at Sundernagar. The day after, Gill allegedly slapped Singh in public following an altercation at Baridih. Gill’s bone of contention was that Singh was supposed to seek permission for attending any function. Allegedly, Singh had reacted sharply, stating that she did not need permission to attend programmes as long as she was the district president.

After the clash, on October 5, Gill lodged a complaint with Sidhgora police station alleging Anjali and her brother-in-law, Arun, assaulted her.

She, however, withdrew the complaint the next day.

By then Anjali had lodged a complaint with the leadership alleging highhandedness of the state president.

Gill, when contacted for comment, said that the matter was being looked into by the party leadership. “I will welcome whatever decision the party leadership takes,” said the leader, adding that such a quarrel among activists was common.
