Cong hush fiat for Balmuchu rivals

Ranchi, Oct. 7: Congress Jharkhand affairs in-charge K. Keshav Rao is believed to have advised former MPs to refrain from making statements and wait for the party high command’s decision.

Though silenced for the time being, the former MPs will intensify their campaign to oust Congress state unit president Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu from October 12. Balmuchu has decided to go to Delhi with his supporters at that time.

The four former MPs who met Rao today were Rameshwar Oraon, Furkan Ansari, Sushila Kerketta and Bagun Sumbrai.

Insiders claimed that the latest anti-Balmuchu campaign by dissidents drew flak in Delhi as most of the senior leaders were busy with electioneering in three states. They somehow managed to meet Rao, who reportedly asked: “What do you expect, when you do not hesitate in making loud statements against me as well.”

At this, a former Union minister said that as the state party in-charge Rao was duty-bound to convey their feelings to the party president. But Rao remained non-committal. He only said that he has submitted his report. The rest was for the party president to decide.

“Sonia Gandhi is not in Delhi. So we have decided to go back now, but will come again next Sunday,” said a former MP.

Meanwhile, news of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s two-day state visit on October 13, has infused a new energy among the cadre though the state unit of the Congress is not aware of the detailed programme of his Ranchi visit. A 20-member team, led by AIYCC PRO-cum-returning officer for Jharkhand Mukesh Chauhan, has arrived to prepare for Rahul’s visit.

The team members are camping in different Lok Sabha constituencies. Sachin Pilot recently inaugurated the membership drive of the Youth Congress. Rahul will be here to monitor the progress and oversee preparations for organisational elections. This apart, he is also likely to address conventions of SCs and STs.

“Rahul’s visit will undoubtedly revive the party unit here. Wherever he has gone so far, he made surprise visits to certain places, which added new dimension to the party organisation. If the same is done here, the Congress will become the strongest political force,” said senior Congress leader Aloke Dube.

Mukesh Chauhan, however, said that Rahul’s programme was yet to be finalised. But, preparations were being made to extend him a warm welcome.
