Bullet for mom hurts one

Malda, Oct. 6: Ruqsena Bibi, 30, of Sujapur was injured when Md Ismail, who shot at his mother this morning after an argument, missed his target.

The bullet missed the youth’s mother and hit their neighbour on her throat as she was standing nearby.

Ruqsena has been admitted to the district hospital here. She has lodged a complaint against Ismail with Kaliachak police station. Police said Ismail is absconding.


Ransack

Alipurduar: Supporters of the Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad allegedly ransacked the RSP party office at Hasimara in Jaigaon on Tuesday. Philip Khalko, a Jalpaiguri district committee member of the RSP, alleged that the incident happened at 4.30pm, when 100-odd people entered the office and ransacked it.


Road death

Kurseong: Barun Biswakarma, 15, a student of Pankhabari High School, who was hit by a car near his school on Monday, died at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital on Tuesday. Subdivisional police officer of Kurseong Rakesh Singh said local people, who had taken Barun to the hospital filed an FIR at the Garidhura police station on Tuesday.


Firing arrest

Raiganj: One person was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the firing near Municipality Bus Stand on Monday evening. Three youths had fired at Sunny Bajaj. They had retaliated when the assistant sub-inspector of police fired at them.


Meeting clash

Siliguri: A meeting called by Alok Chakrabarty, the Darjeeling district president of Intuc, on Tuesday ended abruptly when some members protested against the presence of few Congress supporters, who were expelled by the party during the civic elections. The Intuc members threw tables and chairs at the venue on Hill Cart Road.
