Jamshedpur, Sept. 30: Archers from different districts displayed their skills at the archery championship for tribals held at Arjuna Stadium in Kharsawan today.
Six participants — Mandari Munda (Seraikela-Kharsawan), N. Angaria (West Singhbhum), S. Anand Bari (East Singhbhum), Sangeeta Murmu (Dhanbad), Sukumani Bobanga (West Singhbhum) and Geeta Rani Tudu (Seraikela-Kharsawan) — in both the boys’ and girls’ sections qualified for the national championship, to be held in Delhi in November.
The winning archers competed in 30m and 40m Indian rounds. While Mandari bagged gold and Rs 5,000, Angaria claimed silver (Rs 3,000) and Bari got bronze (Rs 2,000) in the boys’ category. In the girls’ section, Murmu romped home gold (Rs 5,000), Bobabnga silver (Rs 3,000) and Tudu bronze (Rs 2,000).
The championship was part of an MoU inked between the ministry of tribal affairs and Archery Association of India (AAI). Apart from Jharkhand, it is being held in four others states — Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. The Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand editions have concluded. A. Choudhary, the minister of state for tribal affairs, handed over the prizes to the winning archers.
AAI secretary-general Paresh Nath Mukherjee, Jamshedpur MP Arjun Munda and wife Meera, Kolhan commissioner H.S. Meena, Seraikela-Kharsawan deputy commissioner and police superintendent Rajesh Kumar Sharma and Sheetal Oraon, respectively, and Seraikela-Kharsawan District Archery Association (SKDAA) secretary S.K. Mohanty were also present. The meet was organised jointly by the Seraikela-Kharsawan district administration and SKDAA. According to Mohanty, archers from 11 affiliated districts of Jharkhand Archery Association took part in the championship.
