Jamshedpur, Sept. 29: Future entrepreneurs became hospitality managers for a day, as a part of the Joy of Giving Week.
The week, which began on September 27, saw programmes being hosted by students of XLRI School of Business and Human Resources. One part of the programme was “service before self” that comprised a bike rally and clothes to people.
There was also a raddi collection and sale to generate funds for the week. XLRI students visited Nirmal Hrudaya, an old-age home at Baradwari, for an afternoon and distributed sweets and played music and danced.
“We are celebrating a unique week and we are trying to make it a success,” said Jason Jose, a member of the external linkages cell of XLRI.
Dussehra was different, too. A group spent time with cancer patients at Meherbai Memorial Cancer Hospital and gifted sweets, fruits and flowers to people there.
Today, students hired a caterer and served food to the staff at the XLRI. Members of Social Initiative Group for Managerial Assistance arranged all details.
Somewhere in the week there was a Cheshire Home visit, while tomorrow they will host inmates of orphanage. “About 50 children will be visiting the campus and we have planned games and movie screenings for them,” said Madhukar Shukla, a faculty member who is co-ordinating the show. Students are also planning a “give back to earth day”, which will be about saving energy and reducing waste.
This apart vastra samman, a cloth collection drive is still on at the campus in association with a New Delhi NGO Goonj.
