Ranchi, Sept. 22: The governor and several Congress MLAs took a service flight to Delhi today even as BJP leaders hoped that the state Assembly would be dissolved by October 11.
As Raj Bhavan officials too are not aware of the governor’s Delhi agenda, it is widely being perceived that the Centre might take firm decisions on Jharkhand very soon. Governor K. Sankaranarayanan has already submitted detailed reports on current political impasse in the state. However, it still remains a mystery whether he recommended that the Assembly be dissolved to pave way for fresh elections.
“We were aware that the governor would go to Delhi today. But we are not communicated the purpose of his tour. We are even not aware whether he has gone on a personal visit or for official work,” said a Raj Bhavan top official.
The BJP, however, is quite hopeful about the Assembly dissolution. “Both the President and Election Commission are learnt to have taken our complaints seriously. Moreover, the Congress also cannot keep dragging on like this. We have already announced to gherao the Raj Bhavan on October 11,” said BJP state president Raghubar Das.
Former Congress MPs, state president Pradeep Kumar Balmuchu and several legislators too left for Delhi in the same service flight with the governor today. They have been summoned by their party’s state in-charge K. Keshav Rao and screening committee chairman Mukul Wasnik to discuss the health of party organisation and new challenges ahead.
Wasnik had recently visited the state following complaints by former party MPs that Balmuchu was weakening the party organisation.
They also discussed the problems being faced by party workers and the names of potential candidates for Assembly elections.
They had to witness unruly scenes at several places as Balmuchu’s supporters and detractors indulged in slogan-shouting and even fist-fighting. Wasnik is yet to submit his “complete report” to the Congress high command.
“Though we have not been told about the agenda for tomorrow’s meeting, but I believe that the ongoing imbroglio will be discussed, apart from preparations for the elections. Several other MLAs and senior party members too are expected to reach here soon,” said Lohardaga MLA Sukhdeo Bhagat.
Political observers also said that though Balmuchu might not be replaced at this juncture, his archrivals might be given decent positions in the organisation. “Change of guard in the state unit does not appear to be a feasible solution at the moment. But the party may consider utilising the efficiency of bigwigs in some other way,” said Simdega MLA Niel Tirkey.
