Militants surrender
Guwahati, Sept. 21:
Twenty-eight militants from various outfits surrendered at the Assam Rifles battalion headquarters at Khonsa in Arunachal Pradesh today. The militants deposited a large cache of arms and ammunition.
Girl dead
Imphal:
An 18-year-old girl died after allegedly drinking from a soft drink bottle at the RIMS on Sunday night. The girl has been identified as Yangambam Tenden Devi, a resident of Wangjing in Thoubal district.
Teens injured
Dhubri:
Two persons, Ikramul Islam, 18, and Afjal Hussain, 17, of Phulkata village in Dhubri, were seriously injured after lightning struck them on Sunday.
Park alert
Guwahati:
Security has been tightened at Kaziranga National Park in the wake of reports that a gang of poachers was taking refuge in the vicinity of the park. A rhino was killed in the park on Saturday.
Shop gutted
Dhubri:
A shop dealing in stationary items was gutted in a fire that broke out at Lainey Market here late on Sunday night. Goods worth Rs 50,000 were damaged in the blaze.
