JMM goes cyber way

Ranchi, Sept. 19: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief Shibu Soren today said that his party was ready to go alone to the next Assembly elections, at the launch of his party website www.jmm.co.in.

Designed by former journalist Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary, the website would highlight Soren’s achievements as chief minister.

Soren described it a great event in the history of his party organisation. He admitted that the JMM had begun to realise the necessity of adopting new technologies.

“The vikas ke kadam section would explicitly deal with steps being initiated by the Soren government for the welfare of poor. This apart, we have given due honour to martyrs and pioneers of the Jharkhand movement. Information about the latest party decisions would also be available online,” Choudhary added.

Talking to reporters, Soren targeted the Raj Bhavan and said poor people were not getting foodgrain from PDS outlets. Other welfare schemes, too, lay in shambles under the President’s rule, he alleged, blaming both governors — K. Sankaranarayanan and his predecessor Syed Sibtey Razi.

“The governors belong to the ruling party at the Centre and here they have made themselves the centre of power. Had they remained neutral, things would have become easier,” Soren said, adding that he would keep fighting for the interests of the poor.

He, however, remained evasive on whether the JMM had weakened after joining hands with the Congress. “There is no point discussing such things now. I have no complaint against the Congress. Whether the JMM will be forging electoral alliances with other parties will be decided soon,” he added.

He also argued that though JMM was still a UPA partner, the grand alliance had begun to crumble. He bitterly criticised the Centre for not paving the way for fresh Assembly elections in the state and described resignations by BJP MLAs as a political stunt.

“The resignation by BJP MLAs at this juncture is insignificant, as the tenure of the Assembly would end in two months or so. It is also very unfortunate that Assembly elections in Jharkhand are not being held along with Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh. I have given up everything fighting for separate statehood, but people feel cheated at the end of the day,” he added.
