Congman finger cut off

Malda, Sept. 17: A finger of a Congress karmadhaksha was chopped off and the party office and two motorcycles were burnt down, allegedly by people owing allegiance to the CPM, at Ashapur in Chanchal last night.

Sabhapati of Chanchal panchayat samiti Intaz Hossain said the karmadhaksha, Shahjahan Alam, had been admitted to hospital. “Alam had objected to a CPM leader extorting money from the drivers.”

Malda police chief Satyajit Bandyopadhyay said the violence had taken place over the share of extortion money at a motor van stand at Ashapur, 65km from here.
