Leader arrested
Golaghat, Sept. 8:
The Golaghat District Youth Congress president, Akash Phukan, was arrested today for allegedly assaulting an engineer of the public health department at Bokakhat last night. He was later given bail.
Office locked
Imphal:
Unidentified persons locked the office of the state industry department at Lamphel in Imphal West on Monday evening. Police later broke open the lock.
Seven injured
Jorhat:
Seven persons were injured and more than 200 houses damaged as strong winds lashed Majuli island for more than two hours on Monday evening. Five boats carrying passengers from Jorhat were forced to drop anchor.
Tea bonus
Sivasagar:
The managements of 70-odd tea estates in Charaideo subdivision of Sivasagar district on Tuesday decided to pay bonus to the workers at least one per cent more than last year.
Price protest
Golaghat:
AGP activists on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of the deputy commissioner’s office in Golaghat to protest the “unprecedented” price rise of essential commodities.
