IT’S BACK!

Day 1, 3pm

Ritu Kumar

Ritu Kumar’s collection is as “Calcutta-specific” as possible. As a result, we can expect to see signature Ritu Kumar khadis, zardosis and also Phulkari weaves and not so much of her younger brand Label. “I am feeling on top of the world to open Kolkata Fashion Week because it is like homecoming for me. My years in Calcutta have been the most meaningful years in my life,” the bridal queen told t2 from Delhi.

Day 1, 9pm

Wendell Rodricks

The Goan design guru is bringing the Earth Goddess Collection for his second stint at KFW. Coarse handspun cotton, viscose jersey and silk and colours of nature like chalk white, olive green and dusty earth are brought together with a Wendell wow touch to create an eco-friendly, ethical collection. “Using referrals of old Indian garment shapes and keeping a Goan resort flavour in my signature minimalist style, I have created styles and silhouettes that worship the Earth Goddess,” Wendell said.

Day 4, 3pm

Mandira Wirk

After the Chivas show, the Delhi-based designer is back in Calcutta with a classic-modern Indian line. “I have played with silhouettes and shapes but you will see my signature demure drapes,” said Mandira. The colours and fabrics are classic too — beige and ivory on jacquards and cotton silks.

Day 5, 6pm

Narendra Kumar

Japanese meets Edwardian style in Narendra Kumar’s KFW collection. Like last season’s KFW, the Mumbai designer will showcase both womenswear and menswear this time. Beige, rust and black are the three colours that comprise his colour palette. “There will be a great amount of construction in this collection and tailoring elements along with light embroidery,” said Nari.

Day 1, 6pm

Zubair Kirmani

After a successful first season with KFW, Zubair Kirmani is back in Calcutta with menswear and womenswear in his simplistic style. Jackets for men promise to have interesting textures and expect to see bandhgalas and also shorts and T-shirts on the ramp! For her, there will be dresses, skirts, tops and shorts. “Unlike last season, this time I will show colour — subtle though playful,” said the Kashmiri designer.

Day 3, 7.30pm

Neeta Lulla

The Bollywood designer who shot to fame with Chandni and followed it up with Devdas and Jodhaa Akbar is making her KFW debut with a bridal collection. “It is bridal but I would say it is also quite contemporary. It is extremely colourful,” said Neeta.

Day 1, 7.30pm

Rocky S

The Bollywood designer and star stylist will be showing bridal wear. Saris, lehngas, sherwanis, churidar-kurtas in linen brocade, jacquard, georgette and plenty of bling will be enhanced by copper and gold lace embellishments. Colours will be ivory, pistachio, onion pink, vintage grey, fuchsia pink, red, electric blue and emerald green.

Day 4, 6pm

Satya Paul

The Satya Paul collection for KFW is very much of “bridal nature”. Lehngas and weaves — south Indian, Benarasi and Maheshwari — are the highlights of the collection. “All I can say now is that the KFW collection will be unexpected and the highlight, as always, will be the Satya Paul touch,” designer Puneet Nanda said from Delhi.

Day 5, 3pm

Anita Dongre

Anita Dongre will launch Timeless, her latest collection that will be marked by rich textiles, traditional weaves and silks from master weavers. “In keeping with the current mood of the fall/winter season, my colour palette is warm, comprising bursts of red, royal blue, steel grey and black. Timeless is an extravagant celebration of all things Indian and all things ageless,” said the designer.

Day 2, 6pm

Bibi Russell

The Bangladeshi designer who kickstarted KFW Season One will come back with Magical Threads next week. “I want to show the magic, glitter and creativity that lies in the hands of the craftsmen,” she explained. Saris, tie-and-dye and rickshaw art will make up her collection.

Day 5, 9pm

Manish Malhotra

The king of Bollywood will close the curtains on the second edition of KFW with a grander than grand finale. The opulent collection will be high on red, the traditional bridal colour for a not-so-traditional bridal collection, with Manish’s signature nudes, skin and beige offset by splashes of salmon and moss green. “Calcutta is known for its craftsmanship and I will also be bringing what I am best known for — textures and bling. And of course, the clothes will make you feel like a star,” promised Manish. Watch out for his contemporary styling.

And more...

Aarti Vijaygupta, Fi Origami is the inspiration for this designer from Mumbai. Dresses which look like “folded paper”, will be seen in whites and pastels. 3D art can also be seen in some.

Swati Srivastava

The Delhi-based designer will showcase an Indo-western line. The collection includes lehngas, saris, draped tops, tunics and short jackets brought alive by textures, bamboo work, terracotta and cane work on net, khadi silk and Dhakai silk. “I studied in NIFT Calcutta and so I am doubly excited about KFW,” Swati told t2.

Prayrana and Kritika

The designer-duo from Delhi will be showing womenswear dominated by georgette lehngas and dresses that are nature-inspired. The colour palette includes blacks, whites, greys, reds and blues.

Vedaant Bodydrapes

Mumbai-based Indira Ghosh Daikerikar will be making her KFW debut with her label Vedaant Bodydrapes. The nature-inspired line is titled Pristine Collection. White and beige will give way to blue, yellow, pink and green. Batik, screen prints and European cuts are the highlights of her line.

Amita Chittora

Another fashion week debutante, Mumbai-based Amita said she is “nervous and excited”. She will unveil her womenswear spring-summer 2010 collection. Expect a burst of colours and a plethora of dresses — short, long and everything in between.

Aditi Jaggi Rastogi

The designer from Lucknow makes her fashion week debut with a trousseau line titled Stay Stylish. “It is for the new-age bride,” Aditi says about her collection of lehngas, salwar suits and tunics. A range of cocktail-wear will be seen on the ramp too.
