AIFF, Bagan to meet on Aug. 17

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has accepted Mohun Bagan’s request and rescheduled the meeting to resolve the Bhaichung Bhutia issue on August 17 (Monday). Earlier, the AIFF had scheduled the meeting for Sunday, but after Bagan, who will play an exhibition match at Bardhaman, requested them for a new date, it was changed to Monday. The AIFF will be meeting Bhaichung Bhutia on Friday.

Meanwhile, Sneshasish Chakraborty and Biswajit Saha scored a goal each as Bagan defeated Customs 2-0 in a friendly match at club ground on Wednesday.

Tour in limbo

East Bengal’s proposed tour to Myanmar has run into rough weather due to visa problems. The club officials though will wait till Wednnesday before officially cancelling the trip. Meanwhile, the club organised a condolence meeting for the late state sports minister Subhas Chakraborty.

Chess meet

Defending champion and IM B Adhiban, along with IM Deep Sengupta, IM SP Sethuraman, WIM Padmini Rout and Vidit Gujrathi, are some of the top names who will be seen in action at the National B Chess Championship which gets under way at the Town Hall on Thursday.

Besides, top seed , about 350 participants from 49 states will participate in the meet. The 13-day long meet will be played in Swiss League format. The top 30 will be eligible to play in the National A Championship.
