Bengal in JP Atray
The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) joint secretary Biswarup Dey revealed Friday that Bengal will play in the JP Atray meet in Chandigarh. “The organisers of the Moin-ud Dowlah Gold Cup in Hyderabad called me up today and said that the meet will be held according to the original schedule of September 1-15. So it won’t clash with the JP Atray and hopefully we will participate in the meet.”
Dey had said Thursday that Bengal were unlikely to participate in the Chandigarh tourney as its dates were clashing with the Hyderabad meet.
Meanwhile, the CAB will hold a condolence meeting at its premises on August 16 in the memory of the late sports minister Subhas Chakraborty.
In a separate development, Bengal chief selector Sambaran Banerjee had a brief discussion with Sourav Ganguly on Friday, sources revealed.
Clearance
East Bengal’s Lebanese recruit Ramez Dayub may miss the upcoming IFA Shield, as his international clearance is yet to reach the club. Safa FC of Lebanon, Dayub’s former club, claims of having a contract with him though the footballer insists he is free. East Bengal have asked Dayub’s agent to sort things out with Fifa.
Meanwhile, Tushar Rakshit has been appointed as East Bengal’s new assistant coach.
