Busted

Dibrugarh, Aug. 5: The army’s 44 Field Regiment today busted an Ulfa transit camp from the Namsang reserve forest along the Buri Dehing river in Dibrugarh district. Two revolvers, two .12 bore guns, a magazine of AK-47 rifle with 120 rounds, explosives, cordex, detonators, combat dresses and utensils were recovered from the camp.

Morigaon: Morigaon police on Wednesday arrested Ulfa cadre Jitu Saikia from Morigaon town.

Thief arrested

Dhubri: Chagolia police on Wednesday arrested Shahjahan Ali alias Babu Ali of Choto-Pokalagi village in connection with a car theft case on Sunday.

Special train

Guwahati: Northeast Frontier Railway on Wednesday announced the extension of the 0201/0202 Guwahati-Yesvantpur Weekly Special Train by another six trips from August 10 to 14.

Dharna

Tinsukia: The Tinsukia district unit of All Assam Small Tea Growers Association on Wednesday staged a dharna on the premises of Tinsukia deputy commissioner against the imposition of 20 paise cess per kg of green leaf and Rs 200 tax on each bigha of land.

Seized

Dhubri: Nearly 3,300 quintals of betelnuts, two bags of flour, six radios loaded in four boats were seized by the 29 battalion of the BSF at Bodaharchar in Dhubri on Wednesday.
