Guwahati, Aug. 2: Deep Basfore’s lethal leg spins today helped Lower Assam Zone restrict Headquarters Zone to a modest total of 142 in 62.4 overs in the first innings on the first day of their two-day under-16 inter-zonal cricket tournament at Nehru Stadium here today.
Though the tournament was scheduled to commence on Saturday, the match was deferred by a day because of heavy rain.
Electing to bat first, the Headquarters openers started cautiously, but soon Basfore was brought into the attack and the batting side found his deliveries just too hot to handle.
The Headquarters batsmen had no answer to Basfore’s spin attack and the side kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Basfore returned with the figures of six for 46 while Pranab Roy scalped two.
Pratham Kashyap topscored for Headquarters with a steady 37, while Romario Sharma contributed 24 to the team total. Hrishikesh Tamuli made 20 and Sanjow Brahma chipped in with 16 to be the only other notable scorers for the side.
Lower Assam were 11 for one in four overs at close of play today. Anurag Talukdar and Subham Sarkar were batting at the crease on four and one respectively.
