Fire

Bongaigaon, July 31: A fire today broke out at the Bongaigaon First Referral Unit (FRU) here because of a short circuit. A fire tender from the Bongaigaon police reserve doused the fire.

Arrested

Dhubri: Five persons were arrested with 2.5kg of a substance suspected to be uranium from Hatsinghimari in Dhubri district on Friday.

Bodies found

Golaghat: The body of Subrajit Borthakur was recovered from a roadside kiosk on National Highway 39 at Thoramukh in Golaghat district on Friday. The body of an unidentified man was found hanging from the ceiling of an under-construction apartment at Mathura Nagar in Guwahati on Friday.

Rebels killed

Imphal: Police shot dead two suspected militants in two separate encounters in Thoubal district on Thursday night and recovered one pistol each from them.

Awards

Guwahati: Two Assam police officials, Ghana K. Kachari, assistant commandant of BTC Borgaon, and Shiva Prasad Kumar, sub-inspector of police, Morigaon, were awarded the Assam DGP’s commendation medal.
