Jamshedpur, July 31: Rameez Raja, who was convicted in a rape and murder case by a session’s court on July 28, has been sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment.
The court of additional district judge D.C. Ray today pronounced the sentence. The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the convict.
During the argument, the public prosecutor H.K. Chowdhury had pleaded that Raja get a capital punishment for killing 54-year-old former Tata Steel employee Anchal Kumar at the victim’s house at Vijay Heritage and raping his daughter, who was also his friend.
Raja is a student of Al-Kabir Polytechnic in Mango.
Anwar Khan, the father of the convict, said that he would appeal in Jharkhand High Court against the judgment. “My son is innocent. He has been framed in the case,” said Khan, an employee of Tata Steel.
Raja was, however, silent throughout the court proceedings. His well-wishers, friends and sisters were present in court. His younger brother Prince Khan was an accomplice in both the crimes and is lodged in a remand home, as he is a minor. The Class IX student is facing trial under a juvenile court.
