Ranchi, July 29: Governor K. Sankaranarayanan today swung into action, taking swift decisions to correct the “wrongs” committed by his predecessor Syed Sibtey Razi.
In the first move, the new governor divested himself of the portfolios retained by Razi and reallocated them to his three advisers — G. Krishnan, Sunila Basant and T.P. Sinha.
Krishnan has been given the charge of the maximum number of departments, 17 (see chart). He will also preside over the meeting of the advisory council tomorrow. The meeting used to be presided over by the governor.
Sankaranarayanan also passed an order to withdraw the June 29 notification that amended the Jharkhand Rules of Business, 2009. The move was aimed at speeding up the decision-making process.
The amendment had mandated the secretaries to forward all files related to appointment or transfers of government personnel to the governor for his approval. Further, all cases concerning sanction of schemes required to be routed through the governor. Besides, allocation of grants and renewal of licences for minerals under the Mines and Minerals (regulation and development) Act 1957 were to be sent to the governor.
“From now, only those files that the governor wants to look into will the forwarded to him,” said a Raj Bhvan spokesman.
