Student swine flu

Pune, July 27 (PTI): Eleven more students have been struck down with swine flu in Pune in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of H1N1-infected students in the city to 45.

UAE workers

Dubai (PTI): The UAE continues to be the favoured destination for Indian workers among the Gulf nations despite the impact of the global economic crisis in that region. About 1.5 million Indian migrants are working in the UAE, India’s consul-general to the Emirates, Venu Rajamony, said. The workers are mostly from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

New Delhi: A deputy manager of Bhel hanged himself in Lodhi Road office on Monday. Police said J.C. Malhotra, a deputy manager (administration), had left a suicide note saying no one else but he alone was responsible for the extreme step.

Burdwan: A share cropper in Burdwan committed suicide on Sunday after a fungal infection ruined his paddy putting him in huge debt. Police said Baneswar Ghosh, 36, from Mondal village drank pesticide.

New Delhi: A 12-year-old son of an Indian official at the Finnish embassy went missing from his house inside the office campus in high-security Chanakyapuri. A missing person complaint was filed at the police station after Rahul Nair did not return home.

Kumble wife

New Delhi (PTI) The Supreme Court has asked Anil Kumble’s wife and her ex-husband, locked in a custody battle over their daughter, to try a settlement out of court. Chethana Kumble and Kumar Jahagirdhar have a 15-year-old daughter. They have been given three weeks to work out a solution.
