Illicit liquor lands 4 in hospital

Jamshedpur, July 17: Four persons fell ill after consuming illicit liquor at a lodge in Khasmahal under Parsudih police station area today.

Three of them, including one Shailender Singh, were admitted to Tatanagar Railway Hospital at Khasmahal. The fourth was referred to MGM Medical College and Hospital.

Their condition was stated to be serious.

Sanjiv Kumar (40), recuperating at MGM, said they had come from Ranchi for personal work and had been staying at Rajendra Lodge since Thursday.

“In the night, we brought a bottle of liquor to our room and finished it. In the morning, I opened my eyes and found myself on a hospital bed,” said Kumar, a petty businessman.

He was not able to recollect how much liquor he had consumed and when he fell ill.

Sources said the lodge owner, Pravin Prasad, had rushed them to the railway hospital, but the authorities referred him to MGM.

Prasad said that he was not aware that the four had consumed liquor.

“We came to know about their condition when the housekeeping staff entered their room and found them lying senseless,” he said.
