Guwahati, July 9: Maharana Athletic Club today humbled Narakasur Jyoti Sangha by 6-0 goals in a match of the Kamakazi Nripendra Narayan Bhattacharjya knockout football tournament at Nehru Stadium here.
In a one-sided affair where the Narakasur Jyoti men could hardly come into the game, Arifur Rahman opened the floodgates for Maharana in the 18th minute converting a penalty kick. Sibul Nakhudra consolidated the lead in the 23rd minute, while Jacky Sangma netted another in the 44th minute.
In the second half, the Narakasur Jyoti Sangha men tried to regroup but their efforts soon fell apart with Bijit Boro ruffling their net for Maharana’s fourth goal in the 50th minute. Jacky Sangma and Indrajit Sonowal pumped in a goal each in the 88th and 89th minutes to make it 6-0 for the victors.
NF Railway Sports Club will meet Food Corporation of India SC in tomorrow’s match.
