Father held for molestation

Imphal, July 4: Police today arrested Haobijam Ibomcha Singh, 40, on charges of allegedly molesting his three minor daughters over the past few months.

The accused, who is being interrogated at the Singjamei police station in Imphal West, was handed over by the residents of Kwakeuthel Heinoukhongnembi, where his wife Momon Devi and five children stay in a rented house.

The residents caught him after his three minor daughters, aged 13, 12 and 10, alleged that he frequently molested them.

Ibomcha, who hails from Moirang Khunou of Bishnupur district, his wife Momon and three daughters and two sons have been staying at Kwakeithel for the past four or five years.

The children had not spoken out earlier out of fear.

However, the eldest daughter told her mother and some neighbours nearly a fortnight ago after the father molested her again, but the accused fled.

His wife and children, however, continued to live in the area.

“Today Ibomcha came to our locality pulling a rickshaw and looking for his family members. We caught him and then the police came and took him away,” a resident of Kwakeithel said. The police also picked up the three girls for questioning.
