Spot a fake!
Cleavage queen Sushmita Sen

There has been many a query about fake boobs: what they are, whether it’s ok to have them, and how to spot them!

Fake boobs are those that women aren’t born with. Tampering with god-given-breasts happens on the surgeon’s table in two ways — breast reduction and breast augmentation. Breast reduction does alter the natural size and shape of the body but it is strictly not considered a fake job and there’s no artificial matter used. In contrast, it is breast augmentation that gives women fake boobs because her original breasts are increased in size and bettered in shape by inserting artificial products into the body.

Why fake boobs?

Fake breasts are generally desired by women who wish to increase their chest size in the belief that it’ll add to their appeal. Secondly, women who’ve undergone mastectomy owing to breast cancer are sometimes in need of artificial implants. The third category of people who undergo this procedure are those looking for a sex change.

What are the types of inserts used?

These days breast implants are of two types: saline implants that are filled with sterile saline liquid and silicone implants filled with viscous silicone gel. Silicone is a synthetic polymer and is entirely artificial in nature.

Are fake boobs risky?

There are many risks associated with a breast enlargement procedure/surgery. Firstly, it is not a lifetime thing. Implants have to be removed and, if desired, they have to be replaced with fresh implants in the body after a certain time period because of complications resulting in dimpling and puckering of the breasts, ruptures, shifting of the implant and many more such medical reasons. Also, the chance of losing sensation in the nipples is very high after you adopt fake boobs. It then becomes very difficult to be able to nurse a baby, and therefore expectant mothers should steer clear of breast surgery.

How to detect fake boobs?

Fake breasts are hard and overly firm:

Real breasts have a jiggly, jelly-like feel and look. The fake ones are, in contrast, round and hard. They are so firm that they hardly bounce at all. If a woman bends forward or runs or even jogs, the real ones can very easily be made out from the unreal ones, because the real ones will flatten out just that natural bit when stretched, whereas the artificial, gravity-defying ones remain statue-like!

Fake breasts are too perky for comfort:

When not in a bra, real boobs are bound to ‘fall’ a little. Even the best real boobs settle gracefully below where they are when in a bra. Think of them in a bikini — that’s their real level. Fake boobs remain almost where they are, whether in bra, bikini or braless state! It is easier to spot this in larger cup sizes like C onwards. B cups and below are much more difficult to catch because they are naturally small and perky.

Fake breasts are too rounded and perfectly shaped:

That’s because a surgeon must have been paid really well for it. Real breasts are mostly asymmetrical, even if mildly so. So, if you come across a pair that’s perfectly shaped and rounded, you know you are in artificial company.

Fake breasts don’t make a great cleavage (unless they’re made for porn stars):

Fake boobs generally don’t have great cleavage because they were too small to begin with. To create cleavage, a surgeon would have to make them really big, which is not preferred by most women since big-sized breasts have their own problems to contend with.

So instead of breast-enhancement surgery if you are after killer cleavage, go shopping. Head to a quality lingerie store and browse for cleavage-creating bras, many of which can be found on the racks these days. The cups of these bras are filled with silicone or foam, which pushes the breasts towards the centre, thereby helping create a cleavage.

Fake breasts have stretched-out skin:

Real breasts neither grow nor disappear overnight. Therefore, when you put on a size on your real breasts, the skin on the boobs gets a chance to grow with the breasts and when you lose weight on the breasts, the extra skin therefore hangs, giving a sagging look.

Fake breasts are actually manufactured over a few hours and the skin on the boobs looks taut and stretched.

Spot the fake: Seeing double? Not exactly! A real Burberry bag (right) and its counterfeit copy are displayed during the Counterfeit Comparison Exhibition 2009 organised by the Korea Customs Service in Seoul. About 60 local and international brands participated in this exhibition that gave consumers information on how to distinguish between original goods and counterfeits. Couldn’t we all do with some handy hints?
