Fire at Writers’
B>nA fire broke out in the ground-floor office of West Bengal Cooperative at Writers’ Buildings on Friday night. Three tenders brought the blaze under control in 25 minutes. Files, a note counting machine, a computer and furniture were destroyed. “The fire probably started after a tube light burst,” said an employee of the cooperative.
Rape accused
B>nThe two persons arrested on Thursday for raping a 23-year-old woman in Kasba on May 16 were produced in the additional chief judicial magistrate’s court at Alipore on Friday. Ambar Kanjilal, an employee of the high court, was remanded in police custody till July 6 and Suvro Sen in jail custody till July 17.
Special trains
B>nEastern Railway will run special trains from Howrah to Patna and Sealdah to Delhi on July 5. The Sealdah train will leave at 1pm. It will start from Delhi at 7.10pm on July 6 and reach Calcutta the next day.
Road mishap
B>nThe driver of a school bus was hurt when it collided with a private bus on route 43/1 at the Bidhan Sarani-Raja Rajkrishna Street crossing on Friday morning. The five students who were in the bus were unhurt.
Man killed
B>nBijon Kumar Dhar, a 62-year-old Dum Dum resident, was hit by a vehicle on Old Court House Street on Friday afternoon. He was declared dead at Medical College and Hospital.
