Teachers protest ‘insult’
Islampur, July 1: The teachers of Dalkhola High School today ceased work to protest against the misbehaviour of a group of people who had been brought by a student at the institute yesterday.
Secretary of the school Vijay Tudu said a Class IX student had been roaming about and disturbing other students when the classes were on. A teacher Nilkamal Mullick reprimanded the boy. Enraged, the student left the school only to return with some outsiders. They created a furore in the school and allegedly heckled Mullick. Other teachers who tried to interfere were not spared either.
Islampur: One person died and 10 were injured when a jeep overturned at Shrikrishnapur on NH31 near Islampur on Wednesday. Md Abid, 50, succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. The injured are undergoing treatment at Islampur hospital. The police have seized the vehicle.
Islampur: Three persons, who had allegedly tried to loot the Bangiya Grameen Vikas Bank’s branch in Islampur on Monday, were arrested from the Islampur bus terminus on Tuesday night. The arrested are Harun Sheikh, Azizul Sheikh and Musa Sheikh and all three are residents of Belbari in Murshidabad district.
Islampur: Congress supporters organised a two-hour blockade on NH31 at Ramganj near Islampur on Wednesday, demanding a speedy investigation into the abduction of Md Mustafa, a member of the party. Mustafa was allegedly kidnapped by criminals from Ramganj Bazar on Tuesday night.
Islampur: Four persons were injured when two trucks collided on NH31 here on Wednesday. The injured have been admitted to the Islampur hospital. As the trucks were not removed from road, there was traffic congestion on the route all through the day.
