The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi and Calcutta, is introducing an executive postgraduate diploma in international business. The programme is to be completed in three semesters of five months each. It is aimed at working executives and self-employed individuals. There is no age limit. Eligible candidates will be selected on the basis of group discussion, essay writing and interview.
The course fee is Rs 1,75,000, payable in three instalments, plus Rs 2,000 as alumni fee. Classes will be held from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays and Sundays (alternate weeks). Forms must be submitted by July 2009. Visit www.iift.edu for more information.

The Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management (IISWBM), Calcutta, is starting a new course — masters in public systems management (MPSM) — in the 2009-11 session. The two-year programme will be formally inaugurated on July 10, while classes will begin on July 13. The course aims to provide students with challenging career opportunities in the areas of energy, environment and transportation / logistics and healthcare / hospital management.
New course
The International School of Business and Media (ISB&M), Calcutta, has launched its sixth orientation programme for the 2009-2011 batch of postgraduate students of business supply chain and operations, and media management. The idea behind the five-day affair, which was held recently at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, was to familiarise students with the nuances of corporate functioning and lifestyle.
“We are offering the supply chain and operations course for the first time in Calcutta. The student response has been lukewarm,” said Gautam Ghosh, director of ISB&M, Calcutta.

The Nopany Institute of Healthcare Studies (NIHS), Calcutta, is inviting applications for admission to its physiotherapy programmes. The first convocation of the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow’s (IIM-L) Noida campus was recently held during which 148 students were awarded diplomas. The institute runs two main courses — working managers programme (WMP), a three-year, part-time course for working executives, and international programme in management for executives (IPMX), a one-year, fully residential international management programme for mid-career executives. Of the 148 students who were awarded diplomas, 47 were from the WMP batch of 2005-2008, 56 students from the WMP batch of 2006-2009, and 45 from the IPMX batch of 2008-09.
The WMP and IPMX batches comprise students working in banking, engineering, sales and marketing, IT, telecom, PSU and other sectors. The British Council is inviting schools to participate in the second edition of its debate programme, Debating Matters India. Debating Matters is a very successful school debate competition in the UK, pioneered by the Institute of Ideas and supported by the Wellcome Trust.
The competition is open to students of classes XI and XII. Each school is encouraged to register a six-member team along with a debate co-ordinator teacher right from the online elimination stage. However, a school can register a minimum of four students as well. Each school can register only one team. An online elimination test will be held from July 1 to 15.
