Attack slur on Trinamul
Cooch Behar, June 17: Armed Trinamul Congress activists allegedly attacked the houses of Left Front supporters, set a motorcycle on fire, ransacked a car and damaged two other two-wheelers at Ghager Kuthi in Cooch Behar this morning. Ten people who were critically injured have been hospitalised.
District police chief Devendra Prakash Singh said: “It is not yet clear what had provoked the attack. Patrolling has been introduced and pickets have been set up.” No one has been arrested.
President of Trinamul’s Cooch Behar (I) Block committee Khokon Mian has denied the charges.
10 injured
Siliguri: At least 10 people were injured after a bus fell on its side near Kestapur, 20km from here, on Wednesday evening. Police said the driver of the Siliguri-bound bus lost control of the vehicle on NH31C. The injured passengers were taken to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
Run over
Islampur: A five-year old girl was run over by a motorcycle at Taravita in Islampur on Wednesday morning. Roshni Begum was rushed to the Islampur hospital by the local people where she succumbed to her injuries. The motorcyclist had fled the spot.
Electrocuted
Islampur: Jayanava Ghosh (25), a resident of Kadampur in Karandighi, was electrocuted on Wednesday after he came in contact with an electric pole in his locality.
Ganja haul
Islampur: Three persons were arrested for possessing ganja on Wednesday. Police recovered 600g of ganja from them at Sirshi in Chaukulia.
Rhino horn
Guwahati: A rhino horn was recovered from Thanuram Pegu of Jamuguri in Lakhimpur on Wednesday.
Gun arrest
Tezpur: Tezpur police arrested Jai Prakash Rai from Jahaj Ghat in Tezpur and recovered a handmade revolver and a .303 live cartridge from him on Tuesday.
