It’s a team that only knows how to deliver hits. Producer Vashu Bhagnani, director David Dhawan and actor Govinda are back together. They may call their film Do Knot Disturb but they did unknot their film at the IIFA Awards weekend in Macau.

t2 caught up with David Dhawan and the cast, which includes two Miss Universe winners (Sushmita Sen and Lara Dutta) together for the first time and also Riteish Deshmukh. Here are their quotable quotes on DKD...

DAVID DHAWAN

This is one of the fastest films I have made. I didn’t even realise when I started the movie and when it got over. It was really easy. We had great fun. My cast includes good actors but they are better friends. Govinda has never let me down. Nor has Sushmita. Lara worked with me in Partner. We also have a new one on this — Riteish Deshmukh has joined us. He is superb and he is a ‘good boy’. So all taken together, we should have a bigger hit.

GOVINDA

This is my 16th film with David. I feel the best thing about him is that after so many films in a fast world like the one we live in, he has not lost his innocence. He is still in touch with the child in him. His speciality as a filmmaker is that you will never realise that you are working with such a successful director when you step on to the sets. I sometimes feel he doesn’t even know how big a director he is. Usually I have seen that after a couple of hit films, a director stops seeing. Not so with David.

LARA DUTTA

I love working with David Sir! Because you know your day will only be between nine in the morning and six in the evening! There’s a fantastic work-life balance and that also brings out the best work. The only little problem is that he also wakes up at six in the morning and calls and asks: ‘Uth gayee?’ We loved shooting for Do Knot Disturb. We shot in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. We had also shot there for Partner. We had a great time.

SUSHMITA SEN

It was quite fantastic working with Lara for the first time. We know each other from before but we haven’t worked together before. Even in Do Knot Disturb, unfortunately we haven’t had the chance to spend enough time and space together, which we would have liked to. She is a spontaneous actress much like myself and we wait for opportunities to improvise and do our best in a film where there are only natural actors like Govinda.

RITEISH DESHMUKH

When you do a film and it is successful, like Masti was, people keep offering you the same kind of films and I kept doing comedies and fortunately they worked for me. But as an actor doing comedy, your life is not complete till you work with David Dhawan. And I am glad that today this film has completed the entire circle for me. He is like Santa Claus on the sets. Most importantly the lunch break was on time, thanks to Davidji! Also, I have always wanted to work with Govindaji and I am so happy it happened on a film like this.
