Glide with the wind
- Aerosports to begin at Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Dhanbad

Jamshedpur, June 8: Gliding, parasailing, paragliding, paramotoring — soon you will be able to do it all in your city.

The state tourism department has selected Delhi-based firm Leading Edge Adventure Private Limited to boost aerosporting facilities in Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Dhanbad and Bokaro.

Earlier, a tender was floated to select an agency. Now, senior officials in the tourism department have confirmed that Leading Edge is scheduled to visit various locations here this month. “The team will conduct a ground study and shortlist all locations where aerosports can be taken up. To start with, we have selected four districts,” said tourism secretary, Arun Kumar Singh speaking over the phone from Ranchi.

The tourism department maintained that aerosports is one of the most sought after adventure sporting activities in the country. And by promoting it, the state can attract more tourists.

It is believed that the agency shortlisted has vast experience in this field. The present activities of Leading Edge include hang-gliding, powered hang-gliding, parasailing, paragliding and para motoring. After making spot visits in various districts, it would decide on a date to begin aerosporting activities.

The city-based outdoor education institute Know India will help the agency to set up facilities in Jamshedpur. “There is a great demand of aerosports here. Though, we have a few parasailing events, they are not held on a regular basis. We are sure more tourists will want to visit the state, once we begin this,” said secretary of Know India, Tanmoy Mitra.
