Paddlers shine in Scotland

New Delhi: Achanta Sharath Kamal dazzled as India drubbed Australia and hosts Scotland by identical 3-0 scorelines in the 18th Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship in Glasgow Friday. Sharath first defeated Australian K.S. Tran 11-6, 11-7 11-3 and then mauled Scotland’s C. Howieson 11-6, 12-10, 11-8.

Meanwhile, Indian women defeated Wales and Canada 3-0 each, but went down 0-3 to Singapore.

Rana tied 7th

New Delhi: Vikram Rana blasted a three-under 69 to zoom six places to tied seventh after the second round of the Malaysian Amateur Open played at Kuching in Malaysia Friday. Rashid Khan carded an even-par 72 to lie tied 19th.

Real denial

Madrid: Real Madrid have denied reaching a preliminary agreement with Manchester United to sign Cristiano Ronaldo. The Spanish club said Friday in a statement on their website that United had established that the Portugal winger was not for sale.

Sao Paulo: Ronaldo will go on trial at a Brazilian sports tribunal next week for pulling the hair and pinching an opponent in a Brazilian league match. The three-time world player of the year could miss up to three matches if found guilty, the sports tribunal said Thursday.

Lampard feat

London: Frank Lampard has been named Chelsea’s Player of the Year for a record third time. The England midfielder is the first player to win the accolade three times, the English Premier League club said on Friday.
