Booklet on rural work

Siliguri, May 22: Bengal urban development minister Asok Bhattacharya today released a booklet on different schemes completed by the Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad in the past five years.

Elections to the rural body is scheduled for June 28. Mani Thapa, the mahakuma parishad sabhadhipati, was present.

Bhattacharya also laid foundation of an underpass at Khalpara in Naxalbari. The Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority will spend Rs 1.15 crore to construct it in the next 15 months.


Film show

Siliguri: The Siliguri Cine Society will organise a film show at Ramkinkar Hall on May 24. ‘Domspatzen,’ a German film of 90 minutes’ duration, will be screened at 6pm, said Pradip Nag, the society secretary.


Airport sit-in

Siliguri: The Darjeeling district Trinamul Congress organised a sit-in at Bagdogra Airport on Friday. The party protested against lack of transparency in recruiting technical and non-technical staff and issuance of tenders in the airport.


Child dies

Islampur: Tauhid Alam, a one-year-old child of Panjipara in Goalpokhor, died in his residence after he accidentally consumed pesticide on Thursday.


4 injured

Islampur: Four persons were injured when an auto-rickshaw collided with a tractor on NH34 at Karandighi on Friday. The injured persons are under treatment at Karandighi Rural Hospital.


Career fair

Siliguri: A career fair organised by SAPE, an event management company in association with The Telegraph and the Anandabazar Patrika, will start at City Garden on Saturday. The three-day fair will have around 100 stalls put up by different institutions across India. Anupam Kher, the Bollywood actor, is expected to be present.
