85-yr-old found dead
The decomposed body of 85-year-old Anath Bandhu Biswas, who police said was a former registrar of IIT Kharagpur, was found at his Jadavpur home on Wednesday morning. Biswas lived alone. His wife died a few years ago and his children live with their families in other states. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
Cadre shot at
A CPM supporter was shot at allegedly by a Trinamul Congress worker in Baruipur on Wednesday evening. Bikash Bhomra, 32, has been admitted to hospital. Trinamul leaders denied the attacker was their supporter.
Flats for poor
Municipal affairs minister Asok Bhattacharya handed over 1,000 flats in Mahamayatala, on the southern fringes of the city, to underprivileged people on Wednesday.
Murder arrest
Mohammad Sanjir, 22, has been arrested in Begusarai, Bihar, on the charge of murdering 23-year-old Dinanath Jha in Ekbalpore on May 12. Police said Sanjir, who lived in a rented house on Hussain Shah Road, admitted to killing Jha during a drunken brawl.
