Jamshedpur, May 13: Residents of Daiguttu under Olidih police station in Mango today protested against the ongoing power crisis outside the sub-division office of Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB).
The residents, including women carrying broomsticks, assembled near the sub-division office at 10.30am, demanding restoration of power. The angry residents damaged furniture and windowpanes at the JSEB sub-division office and misbehaved with the staff. The sub-divisional officer was not present in the office.
The timely intervention of police brought the situation under control. Police officers also blamed the JSEB for today’s incident. “The power board is to be blamed for not rectifying the fault and replacing the old infrastructure,” said a senior police officer.
Power supply to the Diaguttu locality was disrupted due to rain and thunderstorm on Monday. JSEB had failed to restore normal power supply even after 48 hours. The residents were also peeved about the fact that the power board had failed to replace the old electricity wires and poles at Harizan Tola and Daiguttu as promised.
“JSEB had given us a deadline of one month for replacing the old and damaged wires and poles, which resulted in disruption of power supply. But JSEB had failed to make any headway even after the deadline,” said Sambhu Nath Sharma, a resident.
JSEB executive engineer Harendra Singh said that the sub-divisional officer has been asked to sort out the problems at the earliest.
“We have asked the SDO to look into the problems faced by residents and take necessary corrective measures as early as possible,” Singh told The Telegraph.
