Style and the stars
- t2 caught up with Resshmi Ghosh and Rohit Roy at designer Shantanu Goenka’s studio to discuss their fashion fix, faux pas and fetish

She is in town after a long time and he was here for a film shoot. Together “Ro” and “Chhamiya” posed for Shantanu Goenka. t2 caught up with Resshmi Ghosh and Rohit Roy:

Style basics

Resshmi: I am a simple person, the T-shirts-and-jeans kind. I love short denim dresses since I don’t mind flaunting my legs.

Rohit: I have won five style icon awards in the past two years but I am not a stickler for style. Today was a very hot day so I wore a cotton shirt and linen pants with mojris. Comfort is important.

Second, you have to dress for the occasion. I hate actors coming in crushed shirts and trousers for award ceremonies. If you are not dressed as per the occasion, you are not giving the platform due importance. At the Academy Awards everyone is so well dressed.

Third, you should wear things that suit you. I have very spindly legs, like Amitabh Bachchan, that do not seem to end. So, I’ve never worn bermudas, though my wife loves me in them!

Style essentials

Resshmi: Perfect hair, kajal and lipstick are a must for me.

Rohit: Men can never go wrong with a white shirt, blue jeans and good shoes. Women with a stylish black dress.

Wild fashion phase

Resshmi: Everything has been tried on me from body-paint to weird lashes to glitter.

Rohit: I am pretty wild even now! The other day I wore these checkered breeches, I thought they were pretty wild. I wore it while shooting for Jagmohan Mundhra’s Apartment too. Even Anupam Kher told me “arre ye pyjame toh bahut achhe hain!”

Fashion faux pas

Resshmi: So many! When I have gone shopping alone, I’ve come back with horrendous stuff. That is why I always take my friends and Amit (Gupta, her fiance) along.

Rohit: Yes! Last season for Jhalak (Dikhhla Jaa), there was a retro round where I wore a pink velvet suit. I looked like candyfloss. I sent it back to the designer before I would burn it!

What kind of a shopper are you?

Resshmi: Impulsive.

Rohit: Completely impulsive. I was shooting at Aqua Java here and there was a store beside it. I was more interested in the store and ended up buying T-shirts and shirts worth Rs 15,000.

Wallet weakness

Resshmi: Jewellery. I am a big fan of costume jewellery and silver. I have some 100 pieces.

Rohit: It is actually the other way round. If I like something, I go buy it. You can call me a window observer.

Stylish stars

Resshmi: (Late) Lady Diana, Sushmita Sen, Rekha and Shah Rukh Khan. Rohit (Roy) also has a tremendous sense of dressing. My fiance Amit Gupta too dresses well.

Rohit: I am very stylish! Hrithik Roshan also dresses very well. There is an easy charm about the way he dresses. Jackie Shroff is very ahead of his time. But on screen and off screen, I am a big fan of the way Amitabh Bachchan dresses. He dresses for the occasion.

Among actresses, I like Preity Zinta and Kangana Ranaut. Kangana is from a small town, but is top-notch style-wise.

Not-so-stylish stars

Resshmi: Govinda, Vidya Balan and Priyanka Chopra. The kind of dresses and colours Priyanka wears do not suit her.

Rohit: Kajol maybe. But that’s the way she is. Now, who will ask Mahesh Bhatt to do something about the way he dresses!

Best buy

Resshmi: Saris by Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Ritu Kumar.

Rohit: Diesel jeans that I bought seven years ago from Dubai for Rs 16,000. It’s completely frayed and phata hua.

Worst buy

Resshmi: Difficult to say.

Rohit: Lots!

Your closet…

Resshmi: Cluttered. My parents often put it in order for me.

Rohit: Cluttered till the time I am in the city.

Fetish

Resshmi: I love buying kajal, perfumes and body creams.

Rohit: Watches and Aviators.
