Younis is No.1, Tendulkar up

Calcutta: Sachin Tendulkar and V.V.S. Laxman rose a rung each to be placed at 13th and 15th positions, respectively, in the latest ICC Test batsmen’s rankings.

Gautam Gambhir continues to be India’s highest ranked player at fourth spot in the list, which also has explosive opener Virender Sehwag at No. 20.

Pakistan captain Younis Khan replaced West Indies’ prolific batsman Shivnaraine Chanderpaul at the top of the table, according to an ICC release.

The Guyanese left-hander scored just four runs in the first Test against England and, as a result, has fallen back to tied second position with Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara.

In the bowlers’ list, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has retained his sixth place while pacer Zaheer Khan gained one place to be at 11th.

Muttiah Muralidharan of Sri Lanka reigns supreme in the bowling charts followed by Dale Steyn of South Africa and Australia’s Mitchell Johnson. Jacques Kallis continues to lead the all-rounders’ list.
