Gogoi charge
Guwahati, April 24: Chief minister Tarun Gogoi today said the Assam Olympic Association’s associate vice- president, Mukut Medhi, had tried to sabotage the National Games and had lobbied with the Indian Olympic Association to disallow holding of the event in Assam in view of a threat from Ulfa. ogoi said Medhi had told him that Ulfa had demanded money to allow the Games to be held peacefully. “I don’t remember the figure as I was not interested… I told him (Medhi) not to talk about such things.”
Park closes
Golaghat: Kaziranga National Park will remain closed for the visitors from May 1, as the tourist season has ended. The park will reopen in October.
Wife hacked
Nagaon: Madha Munda, a resident of Bokoliahat in Karbi Anglong, hacked his wife, Chinti, following an altercation on Friday.
Body found
Dibrugarh: The charred body of a 58-year-old woman, identified as D. Damiyanti, was recovered from a railway quarters at Hijuguri in Tinsukia around 4am on Friday. Police said the woman was staying with her son Srikrishna, a Grade IV railway employee.
