Body found in forest

Jaigaon, April 21: Nagrakata police recovered the body of Jakir Hussain (42), a resident of Khairbari, today from the Jaldhaka forest.

Police said Jakir was missing since Sunday and was last seen going fishing in the Jaldhaka. A search was conducted in the forest after Jakir’s brother Motahar filed a police complaint on Monday. The cause of the death is yet to be ascertained.


Lok Adalat

Siliguri: Siliguri Subdivisional Legal Service Committee will organise a Lok Adalat on the Siliguri court premises on April 25. Litigants can settle long pending disputes at the Lok Adalat on the spot, the organisers said.


Abductor held

Islampur: Md Sohail of Bashbari village was arrested on Monday for allegedly abducting a 15-year-old girl of the same locality on Sunday. The girl’s father filed a complaint on the basis of which the accused was picked up. The girl was also rescued by the police.


Two deaths

Islampur: Two unnatural deaths have been reported in the past 24 hours in the Islampur subdivision. Arjuna Khatoon (14) of Marugach committed suicide by consuming poison, while Khairunnessa (42) of Chaklagach hanged herself at their respective residences late on Monday night, police said.


Youth caught

Darjeeling: Kurya Das, a 22-year-old from Jalpaiguri, was caught while running away with money stolen from a bank on Tuesday morning and handed over to police. Das and one of his accomplices had entered the SBI’s Darjeeling town branch and took away Rs 75,000 kept on a counter by the employee of a private firm. While Das was caught by Ajit Baraielly, who studies in Darjeeling Government College, the other accused escaped with the money.
