Home reception for Buxla

Alipurduar, April 5: Joachim Buxla, the Independent candidate from the Alipurduar Lok Sabha seat, today launched his election campaign from his birth place.

Around 2pm, Buxla, the four-time MP who quit the RSP after being denied ticket, reached Garopara, 20km from here, to a reception of about 300 people. Villagers beat drums and women garlanded him. He was accompanied by wife Malati, the RSP Opposition leader in the Kalchini panchayat samiti. Many panchayat members were present.

Sitting under a tree, Buxla said because of Manohar Tirkey, the Bengal junior minister for public works who has been fielded in his place, he could not utilise Rs 7 crore for development of the area.

“I am contesting the poll to protest against the unfair treatment meted out to me by the RSP. The animosity between the Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad and the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha was a result of political conspiracy of the Left Front,” Buxla said.

Malati dared the RSP to take action against her and others who were with her husband. “If the party expels me, I don’t care,” she said.

Secretary of the RSP’s Jalpaiguri district committee Sunil Banik said action would be taken against those who attended Buxla’s meeting.
