Arrested

Dhubri, March 19: Police arrested Sahidul Islam from his residence in Kachuarkhas village under Dhubri police station today on charges of killing his wife, Mafida Begum, on Tuesday. He was arrested on the basis of an FIR filed by his father-in-law yesterday.

Court order

Itanagar: The Itanagar bench of Gauhati High Court has directed the state Election Commission to enlist 33 persons, whose names were deleted from the electoral rolls in November, before March 30, the last date of filing nominations for the April 16 parliamentary polls. The 33 persons are from Silluk village under Mebo segment in Arunachal East parliamentary segment.

Burn injuries

Goalpara: Abul Hasem Ali, his wife Kazida Begum and relative Kasem Ali sustained burns in a fire that broke out at Abul’s Hasilapara residence in Goalpara town on Wednesday. The three were admitted to Goalpara Civil Hospital.

Air force team

Jorhat: The Indian Air Force expedition team, led by Squadron Leader Vivek Bhatia, reached Air Force station, Jorhat, on Thursday.

Silchar: Assam principal secretary (home and political) Subhash Chandra Das and chief electoral officer Hemanta Narzary on Thursday held discussions with the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police of the three Barak Valley districts to review the preparedness for the ensuing polls in Silchar.
