Air scare

Calcutta, March 7: A Calcutta-Dhaka flight made an emergency landing within minutes of takeoff this morning after the pilot detected a defect in the rubber lining of a door that brought down cabin pressure.

The GMG Airlines flight, with 30 passen- gers, took off again at 10.30am after a check-up.

Power relief

Calcutta: The power situation improved on Saturday after plants that shut down over the past few days following snags were brought back to life. The power department said there wouldn’t be any problem even when demand picks up on Monday.

Hill bandh

Darjeeling: The hills will shut down again on Monday. The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has decided to back a bandh called by the Kamtapuri Progressive Party.
